Oklahoma Premier Private School and Plagiarism

As Oklahoma Premier Private School continues to grow, we must take a moment and address the issue of plagiarism.

According to the Meriam-Webster Dictionary, to plagiarize means:

1) to steal and pass off the ideas or words of another as one's own
2) to use another's production without crediting the source
3) to commit literary theft
4) to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

We, at Oklahoma Premier Private School work on the honor system and move forward with the belief that all work turned in is derived from the original thoughts and research of the student.  Plagiarism is submitting work as your own that is copied from any source (person, book, or electronic source.)  If plagiarism is suspected, and confirmed, the following actions will take place beginning at the Jr. High Level.

1.  On the first offense:
For cheating on homework:  The student will receive a zero with the opportunity to make up the work (after parents have been contacted) within a 48 hour period.
For cheating on a test or paper that counts as more than homework:  the student will receive a zero with the opportunity to make up the work for a grade of no more than 70% within a 48 hour period after parents have been contacted.
Notations will be made in the students file with the teacher so that the first offense is notated but no marks will be made on his/her permanent record. This will give the student a chance to realize his/her actions and correct them.

2.  On the second offense:
For cheating on homework: the student will receive a zero with no opportunity to make up the work. The site where the plagiarism was found will be notated on the student's record in think wave (our online grading portal).
For cheating on a quiz, test, project, or paper that counts as more than homework:  the student will receive a zero with no opportunity to make up the work.  The site where the plagiarism was found will be notated on the student's record in think wave (our online grading portal).
Possible suspension of up to 1 week.

3.  On the third offense:
For cheating of any kind after a first offense, the student will receive a zero with no opportunity to make up the work.  The site where the plagiarism was found will be notated on the student's permanent record to appear in that student's transfer file. Suspension for up to one week while, at the discretion of the administration and a meeting of the board, further discipline to include  but not limited to further suspension and possible expulsion will take place.

In the case of expulsion or prolonged suspension due to plagiarism, no refund of fees or tuition will be made.  All contracts of tuitions for the year in the case of expulsion will still stand and be due upon expulsion.
